Greenbushes Place Making
Since inception , we have always worked on projects to make the local ameneties more suitable, functional or pretty. Such projects include major work to install the board work around the Greenbushes Pool and the construction of the playground at Thomson Park.
The most recent project was the construction of a state of the art kkate park, a pump track, and a half basketball court; as well as the beautification of the public space across from the Primary School on Blackwood Road with a Table Tennis Table, a nature balancing track, a retaining wall and a hopscotch.
This project created a heavily frequented Greenbushes community meeting place with input from residents of all ages, shire and industry support by Talison Lithium.
The project was in the making over many years and finally concluded with official opening and thank you to our sponsors event on 11 December 2024.
The project had the following components:
1. Community consultation on concept plan with GROW Greenbushes and local resdents, school children and youth, in person and via survey.
2. Building of skate park and an adjacent pump track, overseen by Shire of Bridgetown Greenbushes, financed with shire, Federal and industry funding. The main sponsor was Talison Lithium.
3. Local school children designed and painted the artwork on the water tank with artist support. They decided on a water theme and the tank now features whales and other underwater creatures designed by the students. The funding for the water tank artwork was raised by a Local Art and Music Festival Trail 2022.
4. GROW Greenbushes activated an adjacent space into a native garden with a Table Tennis Table, hopscotch and balancing spiral made out of wooden blocks. We raised the funds and in-kind support from local businesses, and the local CWA.
5. A community bench was designed and made by the local community shed including engravings of inspiring words.
6. Native plants were planted by volunteers from the Greenbushes Community Garden with the help from parents of local school children.
7. GROW also organized events to activate the space eg a children’s week picnic and pump track training targeting women that were well attended by the local community.
The integrated facilities are a magnet for local and visiting people of all ages. https://www.facebook.com/growgreenbushes/videos/573111918490685
